Device Collection Checklist After Repair in Dubai

    📌

    Complete guide: Repair Guides Dubai

Before You Leave the Repair Counter

A device powering on does not prove that the repair is complete. Before accepting a repaired phone, tablet or laptop in Dubai, match it to the job card, test the repaired function, look for faults caused during disassembly, restore access to your data and collect written repair and warranty records.

    Test before accepting collection

Use this order at collection: confirm the device identity, ask what work was completed, test the repaired component, run a wider device check, remove temporary service access and examine the invoice and repair warranty.

Do not approve a collection statement saying the device was received in good condition until these checks are complete.

Prepare Before Travelling to the Service Center

A “ready for collection” message can describe several outcomes. The repair may be complete, the device may have been replaced, the provider may have found no fault, or the device may be returning without repair because the estimate was rejected.

    Confirm the Repair Status

    • What fault was found?
    • Was the repair completed or was the device replaced?
    • Which part was repaired or changed?
    • Did the device pass the provider’s final test?
    • Was the device erased or reset?
    • Is any balance, inspection fee or courier charge due?

    Bring the Collection Records

    • Job card, intake receipt or repair reference number
    • Collection message sent by SMS, email or WhatsApp
    • Deposit or advance-payment receipt
    • Purchase invoice when the repair involves warranty coverage
    • Identification if requested by the provider
    • Written authorization if another person will collect the device

Bring the cable, charger, SIM card, stylus or other accessory needed to test the reported fault. Do not hand over an unrelated accessory simply because it was included in the original retail box.

Match the Returned Device to the Job Card

Check the identity of the device before unlocking it or discussing the quality of the repair. A busy collection counter can make a wrong-device or missing-accessory problem harder to document after departure.

    • Model and model number
    • Colour and storage capacity
    • Serial number
    • IMEI and secondary IMEI where applicable
    • SIM tray and memory-card tray
    • Case, stylus, charger or cable recorded at intake
    • Existing scratches, dents or cracks shown on the intake record

If the Serial Number or IMEI Has Changed

A changed identifier does not automatically indicate that the wrong device was returned. It can follow a mainboard replacement, full-device exchange or manufacturer service replacement. The new serial number or IMEI should still appear on the service report, replacement document or updated invoice.

Pause collection when: the identifier differs from the intake record and the provider cannot give a written explanation. Do not rely only on a verbal statement that “the system changed it.”

If You Receive a Replacement Device

Confirm whether the returned unit is new, refurbished or a service replacement. Check the model, storage capacity, colour, SIM or eSIM support and warranty position. The document should connect the old device identity with the new one.

Also confirm whether the original device remains with the repair provider and whether accessories from the original device need to be transferred. A replacement handset may not include a charger, case, SIM card or retail packaging.

Ask for a Clear Record of the Work

Terms such as “hardware repaired,” “general service” or “part changed” do not identify what was done. Ask for an explanation that can be compared with the original fault and the amount charged.

    Repair Description

    • The fault found during inspection
    • The component repaired or replaced
    • Any software reset, update or calibration
    • Any additional damage found after opening
    • The tests performed before collection

    Part Description

    • Manufacturer-supplied or service-pack part
    • Original part removed from another device
    • Refurbished component
    • Compatible third-party component
    • Used component

    Charges

    • Inspection or diagnosis
    • Replacement part
    • Labour
    • Software or data service
    • Delivery or collection
    • Tax and final total

The written part description should match what was agreed before repair. Terms such as original, authorized, compatible and refurbished should not be treated as interchangeable.

    Ask About Removed Parts

Ask whether removed parts will be returned or retained and have the answer recorded where relevant. Some warranty, exchange or manufacturer repair programs retain the replaced component, while an independent paid repair may follow a different policy.

Ask About Adhesive, Seals and Water Resistance

Screen, battery, back-glass and internal repairs may require the device to be opened. Confirm whether the display adhesive, back-cover seal or other sealing material was replaced and whether any pressure or water-resistance test was performed.

Do not assume the original IP rating has been restored. A device can look correctly assembled while no written water-resistance assurance is provided. Avoid deliberate water exposure after repair unless the provider or manufacturer has confirmed the applicable coverage in writing.

Test the Device According to the Repair

Begin with the exact fault listed on the job card. A full device check is still needed afterward, but the repaired component should be tested first while the repair history is open at the counter.

Repair completed Test before collection Do not ignore
Screen replacement Touch every edge and corner, type across the keyboard, drag icons, adjust brightness, rotate the display and test biometric unlock and the proximity sensor. Dead touch areas, ghost touches, flicker, uneven colour, raised edges, pressure marks or a loose bezel.
Battery replacement Connect a charger, confirm the battery is detected, watch the percentage reading and use the device for several minutes. Rapid heating, sudden percentage changes, unexpected shutdown, a lifting display or a rear cover that does not sit flat.
Charging-port repair Test charging with a known working cable, move the connector gently, test computer data transfer and check the lower microphone if it shares the same assembly. Loose connection, repeated charging sounds, intermittent charging, no data connection or a cable that only works at an angle.
Camera repair Open every front and rear lens, focus near and far, take photos, record video and test the flash and stabilization where supported. Dust spots, fogging, shaking, focus failure, dark images or a camera-app error.
Speaker or microphone repair Record a voice memo, make a normal call, use speakerphone, play audio and record a short video. Distortion, rattling, low volume, muffled speech, missing audio or sound that cuts out.
Back glass or housing repair Inspect the frame, buttons, camera surround, wireless charging, NFC and cellular reception. Sharp edges, visible gaps, loose buttons, uneven camera glass, wireless charging failure or weaker signal.
Mainboard repair Check serial and IMEI details, SIM service, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, storage, cameras, sensors, audio and charging. Changed identifiers without documents, missing storage, disabled functions, network failure or repeated restarting.
Water-damage treatment Test startup stability, charging, display, cameras, microphones, speakers, buttons and wireless connections. Unusual heat, smell, screen changes, audio problems, intermittent operation or corrosion warnings.
Laptop keyboard or trackpad Test every key, shortcuts, backlight, trackpad movement, gestures and physical clicking. Repeating keys, unresponsive corners, raised keys, a loose trackpad or a palm rest that moves when pressed.
Laptop display or hinge Check brightness, colours, pixels, webcam, lid movement, sleep when closing and wake when reopening. Pressure marks, flicker, bezel gaps, hinge noise, excessive stiffness or a lid that does not close evenly.
Laptop port repair Test the repaired port with a real charger, storage device, monitor, network cable or audio accessory. Loose sockets, repeated disconnection, reduced charging, no video output or a device that is not recognized.

Run a Whole-Device Check Before Acceptance

Opening a device can affect nearby cables, antennas, sensors, microphones and seals. Test functions outside the original repair area before leaving.

    1. Inspect the Exterior and Assembly

Check for new scratches, dents, cracks, missing screws, lifted edges, frame gaps, dust under camera glass and buttons that sit at different heights. Place the device on a flat surface to see whether it rocks or appears swollen.

    2. Check the Display and Input

Use a bright screen and a dark screen to look for lines, marks or dead pixels. Test the full touch area, keyboard, mouse, trackpad, stylus and screen rotation where applicable.

    3. Test Calls and Connectivity

Confirm SIM detection, incoming and outgoing calls, cellular data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and location services. For an eSIM device, confirm that the expected line is present and active.

    4. Test Cameras, Audio and Sensors

Use each camera, record audio, play sound through every speaker and test vibration, face recognition, fingerprint recognition, auto-rotation and proximity behaviour.

    5. Test Charging and Temperature

Keep the device connected for several minutes. Confirm that charging remains stable, the percentage moves normally and no part of the device becomes unusually hot.

    6. Restart the Device

A restart can reveal boot loops, missing components, repeated error messages or a fault that temporarily disappeared during the first startup.

    7. Repeat the Original Fault Test

Return to the complaint written on the job card and reproduce the action that previously caused the problem. The repair is not verified until that action works normally.

    Extra Checks for Laptops

    Power and Battery

    • AC adapter is detected
    • Battery appears in the operating system
    • Sleep and wake operate normally
    • Fan noise is not abnormal

    Ports and Communication

    • USB and USB-C
    • HDMI or DisplayPort
    • Audio connection
    • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

    Input and Media

    • All keyboard keys
    • Trackpad and gestures
    • Webcam and microphone
    • Speakers and headphone output

Restore Personal Access and Remove Service Access

Complete privacy checks while the device is still with the provider. UAE public guidance covers consumer-data protection and personal-data privacy, but practical access controls still need to be checked by the device owner.

    Exit Maintenance or Repair Mode

    • Samsung Galaxy: leave Maintenance Mode and confirm that the normal user profile, apps, messages and photos are visible again.
    • Eligible Google Pixel devices: exit Repair Mode and confirm that the ordinary Android environment returns.
    • Other Android devices: check for guest, maintenance, diagnostic or temporary user profiles.
    • iPhone and iPad: confirm the device is fully activated and check Parts and Service History on supported models (a displayed Finish Repair instruction may need to be completed).

Maintenance and Repair modes are useful privacy tools, but availability and menu paths vary by model and software version. Their use does not remove the need for a backup because a repair can still require erasure or replacement.

    Remove Temporary Credentials and Profiles

    • Change any passcode or password shared with the repair provider
    • Remove temporary user or administrator accounts
    • Check the registered fingerprints and face-recognition profiles
    • Remove unknown VPN, device-management or configuration profiles
    • Check Android device-administrator and accessibility permissions
    • Remove remote-access software not required after repair
    • Check laptop startup applications and recently installed programs

Confirm That Data and Accounts Are Usable

Opening the gallery alone is not enough. Check contacts, messages, notes, files, cloud synchronization, password access, authentication apps, work profiles, banking access and any app needed for daily use.

If the device was erased, confirm whether this was disclosed before repair. Apple’s service guidance notes that an iPhone or iPad may return erased and may need to be restored from an existing backup. Similar data-loss risks can apply to other brands and repair routes.

    Restore Ownership and Recovery Features

    • Device-finding service such as Find My or its equivalent
    • Screen lock and biometric access
    • SIM PIN where used
    • Cloud backup
    • Account recovery details
    • Two-step verification
    • Storage encryption settings on laptops

Do not provide a permanent banking, email or cloud-account password merely to prove that the device works. Unlock the device personally and enter sensitive credentials away from public view.

Check the Invoice, Job Card and Repair Warranty

The collection record should show what the provider received, what it found, what it changed and what the customer paid. Keep the document even when the repair was completed without charge under warranty.

    Information to Look For

    • Repair provider’s trading name
    • Job-card or service-reference number
    • Device model, serial number or IMEI
    • Reported fault
    • Inspection result
    • Work completed
    • Part description
    • Labour and part charges
    • Inspection, delivery or other fees
    • Tax and final amount
    • Payment method
    • Collection date
    • Repair-warranty period and exclusions

Separate Part Coverage From Labour Coverage

A repair warranty may cover the replacement part, the installation work, or both. Ask what happens when the same fault returns and whether a second diagnosis, removal, installation or courier fee will be charged.

Confirm whether the repair must return to the same branch and whether opening the device elsewhere ends the provider’s repair warranty. Manufacturer warranty eligibility should be checked separately.

Repair route Collection document to request What to verify Warranty point
Official brand service Brand repair reference, service report and invoice where applicable Repair or replacement status, updated device identity and coverage record Confirm the terms through the brand’s official support channel
Authorized service provider Job card identifying the provider, device and completed work Current authorization for the product type and whether the claim was accepted under warranty Ask how the repair appears in the manufacturer’s service history
Independent repair provider Itemized invoice, part description and written repair warranty Part type, inspection fee, labour coverage and return procedure Independent work may affect manufacturer coverage depending on the brand, product, damage and repair performed
Unconfirmed provider Written business details, job card, invoice and warranty terms Provider identity, physical location, device records and promised remedy Do not assume manufacturer authorization or warranty recognition

Do Not Complete Collection When These Problems Appear

    • The returned device does not match the job card.
    • The serial number or IMEI changed without written documentation.
    • The original fault remains.
    • A new fault appeared after repair.
    • The display, back cover or case does not sit correctly.
    • The device becomes unusually hot.
    • There is a new crack, dent, scratch or missing accessory.
    • The installed part differs from the agreed part description.
    • The final charge exceeds the approved estimate without written approval.
    • The provider will not issue a job card, invoice or receipt.
    • Unknown accounts, biometric records or remote-access tools are present.
    • Personal data was erased without prior explanation.

    Record the Problem Before Leaving

    1. Show the fault to the service representative.
    2. Ask for the issue to be added to the existing job card.
    3. Take clear photos or a short video where appropriate.
    4. Request the proposed remedy and return date in writing.
    5. Keep the device with the provider if accepting it would weaken the evidence.
    6. Do not sign a statement confirming satisfactory condition while the issue remains unresolved.

Collection by Courier or Door-to-Door Delivery

Courier return requires two separate checks: the condition of the parcel and the condition of the device.

    Before Opening the Package

    • Check the shipping label and repair reference.
    • Photograph damaged, open or retaped packaging.
    • Record the security seal where one is used.
    • Keep the courier tracking and delivery confirmation.
    • For a high-value device, record the opening in one continuous video.

Check the Contents Against the Intake Record

Confirm the device, case, stylus, SIM tray, charger, cable, laptop adapter, storage device or other recorded accessory. Do not discard the packaging until the device has passed the repair and identity checks.

If the parcel contains the wrong device, missing items or new physical damage, contact both the repair provider and courier promptly in writing. Keep the box, labels, protective material and delivery record while the issue is reviewed.

If the Fault Returns After Collection

Do not immediately reset the device or allow another provider to open it. First record the repeated fault in a form that can be compared with the original job card.

    Preserve the Evidence

    • Record the exact steps that trigger the problem
    • Save the error message
    • Take a video or screen recording
    • Note the date and time
    • Record the charger, cable, app or accessory used
    • Keep the invoice and warranty document

    Send a Written Repair Request

    • Job-card number
    • Device model and identifier
    • Original fault
    • Repair performed
    • Repeated or newly discovered fault
    • Attached photos or video
    • Requested remedy

    Dubai Consumer Complaint Route

Give the business a reasonable opportunity to inspect and resolve the problem. If the dispute concerns poor service, breach of warranty, an unfair charge or another eligible issue involving an establishment licensed by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, the official Consumer Rights Dubai complaint service may be relevant.

    Open Consumer Rights Dubai

Prepare the invoice, repair job card, warranty terms, written messages, payment record, photographs, videos and a dated account of what happened. A different authority may apply when the provider is licensed outside Dubai or the dispute falls under a separately regulated sector.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Should I sign the collection document before testing the device?

Read the wording first. Test the device before signing any statement that confirms satisfactory condition, successful repair or receipt without damage.

Why would a repaired device have a different IMEI or serial number?

A mainboard replacement or full-device exchange can change the identifier. Ask for a service document that records the old and new device details.

Is a phone still water-resistant after a screen or battery repair?

Do not assume the original water-resistance level remains. Ask whether new sealing material was installed, whether a test was completed and what the provider covers in writing.

What should I do if the service center refuses to give an invoice?

Ask for a written job card, payment receipt and repair-warranty terms before accepting the device. Record the refusal if a dispute later needs to be raised with the business or an applicable consumer authority.

What if my data was erased during repair?

Ask whether erasure was included in the agreed process and request a written explanation. Restore from the most recent trusted backup and confirm that account access, authentication apps, SIM service and cloud synchronization work.

Can I complain if the same fault returns?

A repeated fault may support a repair-warranty or service-quality complaint. Contact the provider first with the job card, invoice and evidence showing that the same problem has returned.

Does Dubai Consumer Rights cover every repair provider?

No. The official service is intended for eligible complaints against establishments licensed by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism. Provider location, licence, sector and the nature of the dispute can affect the correct complaint route.
